Using an Outdoor Kitchen for Holiday Cooking

The holidays bring a slew of fun times, two in particular, hosting and eating. The holiday foods bring people together to celebrate and reminisce while still feeling comfortable and ultimately full. Sometimes, a house full of guests can be stressful and cooking for parties can be challenging. If you have an outdoor kitchen, you can easily utilize it for holiday cooking and entertaining.

For Thanksgiving, the turkey is the star of the show, with supporting roles from all the side dishes. If you have an outdoor grill, you can easily use it to cook your turkey and free up some much needed space in your indoor kitchen. Often, turkey even cooks faster on a grill, but be sure to check the temperature. Gas grills can be used in tandem with woodchips to provide extra flavor. You can also use an outdoor smoker to cook your turkey. If you have a duel-fuel grill, then you may be able to cook the turkey while also cooking some side dishes outside including corn and vegetable medleys.

Outdoor kitchens or even smaller outdoor nooks can make fantastic bars during the holidays. The cooler temps help ensure that beverages stay cold without bags upon bags of ice. It’s simple to set up an outdoor serving station with glasses and drinks plus all the accouterments like lemons, limes, and cranberries. Plus, this gives people a way to serve themselves without filling up the cook’s area.

Hardscapes provide endless possibilities for entertaining, including throughout the holidays. Outdoor fire pits are especially useful for holiday entertaining. After you’ve eaten all the turkey and meat your heart can handle, taken a nap, and are ready for a second round, you could start with some s’mores. Capping the night off with a fire and some sweets outside can help your guests leave feeling satisfied and having shared a special experience together.

Lastly, if you have an outdoor TV area, this can make a great “sports lounge” when entertaining for the holidays. If you are choosing to cook outside, this is also a great way for guests to help out there but not miss any of the action. It also provides a perfect escape for those who are avoiding certain guests inside or want a break from their in-laws.
